Cameos are expected to appear in nearly every Marvel Studios movie and while a handful of new films have been found… Doctor Strange in a multiverse of madness Already revealed in trailers beforehand, there was a couple that were kept secret and stunned fans. While we all knew The Illuminati would be present in the movie, but the last seat at that table has been a fan waiting and fantasizing of all time, the smartest man in the world, Reed Richards, leader of the Fantastic Four. Above all, he was played only by John Krasinski, a fan favorite.
Krasinski as Reed has a few scenes in the movie, but he introduces some key Marvel Comics terms into the MCU dictionary by revealing the concept of invasions to Stephen Strange’s Benedict Cumberbatch. It’s a major part of Jonathan Hickman’s run on The New Avengers, something that’s less straightforward in Secret Wars, but also something Reed does within the pages of Marvel Comics. Red is present for some dialogue with a stranger and then another where he confronts Wanda Maximov. In this scene, he is referring to some large objects, such as his wife Sue Storm and his two children, Franklin and Valeria Richards, present on this earth (designated 838). Sadly we only get to see him stretch a little before Wanda turns him into spaghetti and pops his head like a champagne bottle.
Will John Krasinski play Red Richards in the MCU Fantastic Four?
We don’t know, and frankly it seems that throwing the entire Illuminati on Earth-838 means there are variants of these characters that are very different from those in the MCU’s Earth-616 (the main universe). The use of Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Anson Mount as Black Bolt and John Krasinski as Red Richards seems to come from fan desires more than anything else; While Maria Rambo’s use of Lashana Lynch as 838 Captain Marvel and Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter as 838 “Captain Carter,” is a direct reflection of what we have for those characters on Earth-616.
As we know, Steve Rogers from Chris Evans’ Captain America and Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers were Captain Marvel, and by that logic Professor X, Black Bolt, and Mr. Fantastic from the MCU could be completely different. Even Karl Mordo for Chiwetel Ejiofor, the only actor who plays the same character on Earth-838 as they do on Earth-616, is the supreme wizard of this world, and is actually on a different alignment than his MCU version.
Here’s what we know about the Fantastic Four in the MCU:
Marvel Studios is developing a version of Marvel’s First Family for the big screen, but it recently suffered a setback in the form of director John Watts who walked away from the project. No official release date has been announced, and the fact that no official details about John Krasinski’s potential MCU future have been reported anywhere seems to hint that he’s not MCU’s Red Richards. Things can naturally change, but for now the emergence of the star of The Office as the leader of the Fantastic Four appears to be a one-time gag. However, the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Inhumans have now entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The sad part is that none of them survived.
